After 52 million votes were counted, according to host Ryan Seacrest, Langone was sent to the bottom three, where he was joined by fellow hopefuls Jacob Lusk and Haley Reinhart.
Seacrest called Stefano a contestant with an "amazing attitude each and every week" during the singer's emotional send-off. In addition to Langone's elimination, Thursday night's episode brought Season 7 champion David Cook back to the stage, where he debuted his new single "The Last Goodbye."
Also performing were Katy Perry and special guest Kanye West, who brought their No. 1 collaboration "E.T." to life in front of an elaborate backdrop.
American Idol returns Wednesday with the contestants tackling the songs of Carole King, while Bruno Mars and last season's Idol runner-up Crystal Bowersox will perform on the elimination episode Thursday.
