Women flocked to the music competition series, which beat Fox's 90-minute "Glee" episode, for a rare evening of dominance for NBC. |
After months of sagging ratings, NBC has something to sing about.
The network’s Mark Burnett-produced American Idol rival, featuring Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine as musician coaches, drew a 5.1 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic, clobbering Fox’s supersized Glee for a rare evening of Peacock dominance.
The latter, by comparison, drew a 3.4 in the demo.
No surprise, the NBC singing competition skewed female, drawing a 6.4 rating among women 18-49 (their male counterparts delivered a 3.9). Similarly positive for the network — and the advertisers looking to peddle their wares in the show — was the tune-in for the women 18-34 set, which pulled down an impressive 5.4 rating.
For its part, a Lady Gaga-inspired Glee garnered a 4.5 and a 4.7, respectively, in the female demos.
The biggest segment to tune in to NBC’s heavily promoted two-hour premiere, however, was the women 25-54 demo, which drew a 6.9 rating.
The only program to draw an even bigger swath of that middle-aged female demo was ABC’s older-skewing Dancing With the Stars, which delivered a 7.2 rating for its 9 p.m. results show.
